Watering Thyme

I love gardening. There’s something that feels really good about the nurturing act of planting, watering, weeding, tending to life in a garden. Over the summer, there were some really high temperatures that caused one of my little potted plants to die. Well, I also might have neglected to water my potted plants that one particular week!

My Thyme plant took the hit and dried up pretty quickly. My friend that was visiting said it was truly dead and I should go ahead and toss it. But for whatever reason, I left it sitting there and continued including it on my weekly watering routine.

A couple of months later, one tiny little thyme leaf sprouted out of the dry tangled mess. So, I continued watering it, even just for that one tiny leaf.  About 5 months after it had "died," suddenly, the whole plant came to life!

I felt like the Lord was speaking to me through this little journey of watering the thyme. There’s a number of areas in my life that I know the Lord is asking me to continue watering, even though the results are either not currently there or there’s just one tiny leaf hanging on.

What do I mean by watering?

Well it may look like continuing to pray for situations that need the Lord’s hand to move in, even though it may not seem like He is moving now.

It may mean continuing to love someone even though their heart may not be responding well right now.

It may mean sowing your time into something Kingdom-minded, like hospitality, generosity and care for those in need.

It may look like continuing to speak the truth in the midst of confusing challenges.

It may mean continuing to work on a relationship that is frustrating but you know that the Lord has asked you to keep going.

It may mean trusting Him to open doors in the right time, while you remain faithful with what is in your hands right now.

What is your thyme?
